Programs

Our Programs

At the MKO Temitope Foundation, our programmes are designed to address the full spectrum of needs faced by children with special needs and their caregivers. Each programme is rooted in our core values of compassion, inclusion, and empowerment — and while some are still in development, every one of them represents our commitment to building a stronger, more supportive community for the families we serve.

WonderKids Therapy Support Programme

The WonderKids Therapy Support Programme is our flagship initiative, dedicated to ensuring that children with conditions such as cerebral palsy, autism, Down syndrome, and other developmental challenges have consistent access to quality therapeutic care. Through partnerships with physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and speech and language therapists, the foundation subsidises or fully funds therapy sessions for children from low-income families. We believe that financial hardship should never be a barrier to a child reaching their fullest potential.

2. Caregiver Empowerment & Wellness Programme

Caregivers are the unsung heroes of the special needs community — and they deserve support just as much as the children they care for. This programme provides caregivers with access to training workshops, mental health support, peer support circles, and practical resources to help them navigate the daily demands of their role. Sessions cover topics such as managing caregiver burnout, understanding your child’s condition, navigating the Nigerian healthcare system, and building a support network. (Workshops launching Q3 2026.)

Inclusion Advocacy & School Readiness Programme

Every child deserves a seat in the classroom. This programme works directly with schools, teachers, and education authorities to promote inclusive education practices for children with special needs. We provide sensitisation training for teachers, supply adaptive learning materials, and advocate for policy changes that protect the rights of children with disabilities in Nigerian schools. We also offer school readiness assessments to help families identify the best learning environment for their child.

Community Awareness & Stigma Reduction Campaign

One of the greatest barriers faced by families of children with special needs in Nigeria is stigma — from extended family, neighbours, religious communities, and society at large. This campaign uses storytelling, community events, social media, and partnerships with faith organisations to shift public perception and foster a culture of inclusion and empathy. We go into communities to have real conversations, share real stories, and challenge the myths and misconceptions that isolate families who are already carrying a heavy load. (Ongoing — next community event coming soon.)

The MKO Resource & Referral Hub

Navigating the world of special needs can be overwhelming, especially for newly diagnosed families who do not know where to turn. The MKO Resource and Referral Hub serves as a one-stop information centre — connecting families to vetted therapists, specialist doctors, special needs schools, legal advocates, and financial assistance programmes across Nigeria. Whether online or through our helpline, families can reach out and receive guidance, referrals, and a listening ear from people who genuinely understand their situation. (Hub launching soon — join our mailing list to be notified.)

The Light Fund — Book & Media for Change

Named in honour of the book The Light We Called Mitcheal, this fund uses proceeds from the sale of the book and other foundation media to directly finance therapy sessions, caregiver workshops, and awareness campaigns. By purchasing the book, donating, or sharing our story, supporters become active contributors to real change in the lives of real children. The Light Fund also supports the documentation and sharing of other family stories — because every story of resilience deserves to be told. (Book available now — 1000-copy fundraising goal ongoing.)
