MKO Temitope Foundation Officially Launches, Bringing Hope to Special Needs Families Across Nigeria

The Mitcheal Kehinde Oluwadarasimi (MKO) Temitope Foundation for Special Needs and Caregivers has officially launched, marking a significant milestone in the effort to improve the lives of children living with special needs and the families who care for them across Nigeria. Founded by Dr. Tinuke Temitope, the foundation was established following a deeply personal journey that exposed the enormous gap in support, resources, and community available to Nigerian families navigating life with a child who has special needs.

Speaking at the foundation’s inaugural event, Dr. Temitope expressed that the organisation was not just a charity but a movement — one rooted in the belief that every child, regardless of ability, carries an extraordinary light within them. “We are not here to manage children — we are here to celebrate them, to advocate for them, and to walk with their families every step of the way,” she said.

The foundation launched with an immediate focus on three key areas: therapy access for children from low-income families, caregiver mental health and wellness support, and public awareness campaigns to combat the stigma that continues to isolate special needs families in Nigerian communities. Plans for a resource and referral hub, an inclusive education advocacy programme, and a community outreach campaign are already underway.

The foundation has received an outpouring of goodwill from supporters, healthcare professionals, and members of the public since its announcement. Families who have long felt invisible say the launch of MKO Temitope Foundation feels like the beginning of something they have been waiting for. For Dr. Temitope, that response is everything. “We started this because of one child,” she shared. “But we are building it for every child.”
